If you receive a PowerPoint presentation as an email attachment or obtain one another way, you will not be able to view it if you don't have the proper software. Your computer must have software capable of opening PowerPoint documents. Microsoft does not include a PowerPoint viewer with Windows XP, but you can install one for free and use it to open any PowerPoint file. After installing the program, you don't even have to launch it to view a PowerPoint presentation.
Install PowerPoint Viewer
1.
Visit the Microsoft Download Center (see Resources) and download the PowerPoint viewer.
2.
Click “Save“ to save the file to your hard drive. The file’s name is PowerPointViewer.exe.
3.
Find that file after the download completes and double-click it to launch the installer. Follow the instructions it provides to install the program.
Open PowerPoint Presentation
1.
Click the Windows 'Start' button and select “All Programs” to view a list of programs.
2.
Find and select the Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 icon in the list to launch the program. A file selection window will open and display your hard drive’s files and folders.
3.
Navigate to a PowerPoint file and double-click it. A License Agreement window will open if this is your first time using the program. Read the license agreement and click “Accept” to view the PowerPoint presentation. The PowerPoint Viewer will open and display the presentation.
Tip
- You can also double-click a PowerPoint file on your desktop or in any folder to view it. If you do not have the regular PowerPoint application installed, the PowerPoint Viewer will display the presentation.
